InternetRetailer.com reports that GroceryGateway.com, an e-grocery provider in Toronto, has been doubling its annual number of orders each year that it has been in business since 1999. This year, according to the company CTO, Brian Miller, GroceryGateway.com is processing between 1,000 and 1,500 orders a day with an average transaction size of $140.
While GroceryGateway.com started as a “store pick” operation, it has now moved to a 300,000 warehouse for fulfillment functions.
The target, according to Miller, is the time-starved consumer; business usually picks up once the weather turns cold and snowy.
