- Pathmark Stores, Inc. reported that net earnings for the third quarter of fiscal 2002 ended Nov. 2 were $0.1 million, compared to a net loss of $60.9 million, or $2.03 per diluted share, a year earlier. Quarterly sales fell 2.6 percent to $971.6 million from $985.9 million in the prior year. Sales from stores open at least a year or same-store sales fell 2.6 percent.
- Target Corp. reported November same-store sales fell 6.7 percent. Total sales for the four weeks ended Nov. 30 rose 1% to $3.94 billion from $3.9 billion a year ago.
- BJ's Wholesale Club Inc. reported that November same-store sales were up a mere 0.5 percent; it would have been worse except for the positive contribution from sales of gasoline of about 2 percent.
Total sales in the four-week period ended Nov. 30 increased 12 percent, to $500 million.
