- Wal-Mart Stores Inc. reported December same-store sales year rose 2.3 percent, meeting its lowered forecast.
Total sales for the five-week period ended Jan. 3 rose 9.5 percent from a year earlier, to $31.6 billion.
- Costco Wholesale Corp. reported this morning December same-store sales were up three percent. Total sales in the five-week period ended January 5 rose seven percent to $4.58 billion from $4.27 billion in the year-ago period.
- Delhaize posted a 3.3 percent drop in sales to the equivalent of $21.8 billion (US) for 2002. Same-store sales in the US, where the company does 80 percent of its business, were off one percent.
- 7-Eleven Inc. reported that December same-store sales were up five percent, while total sales for the month gained 5.7% to $606.8 million from $574.2 million in the year-ago period. For fiscal year 2002, same-store sales rose 3.3 percent. Total sales for the year rose 4.1 percent to $7.3 billion form $7 billion last year.
