The Tennessean reports that the Kroger Co. will spend $120 million over the next two years opening between seven and nine new stores in central Tennessee, as well as remodeling existing units.
Kroger has 53 stores in the region and roughly a 50 percent market share, but is seeing new and heightened competition from Wal-Mart and Publix.

- We know it is expanding, but somehow just putting the words “Tennessee” and “Publix” in the same sentence seems odd. But we suspect there will be plenty more states to add to Publix’s portfolio before it is done…
