In the metropolitan Detroit area, Meijer Pharmacies reportedly are taking advantage of the broad number of Kmarts that are closing by soliciting the beleaguered retailer’s cast-off pharmacy customers.

Thirty-five of Kmart's recent store closings are within 10 miles of a Meijer store, according to the company, which has given Meijer a strategic opening. In addition, in this era of pharmacist shortages, Meijer says that it is looking at the ranks of laid-off Kmart pharmacists for new employees.
