The Natural Marketing Institute (NMI) reports that based on new research, the nation’s health and wellness industry generated 2002 annual sales of about $59 billion, a 7.3 percent increase over 2001.
“The industry’s strength is currently within functional and fortified foods/beverages (+11%), organics (+17%), and natural/organic personal care (+15%),” according to Steve French, NMI managing partner, who also said that “vitamins, minerals, and herbals show continued maturation.”
NMI’s new study, The 2003 Health and Wellness Trends Report, suggests that the industry will reach $86 billion in annual sales by 2006.
