- Pathmark Stores announced that it will begin running its ad specials on a Friday-to-Thursday schedule instead of Sunday-to-Saturday, with prices changing every Thursday night.
The change will be advertised with the slogan, "Fridays never looked so good."
- Published reports say that Irish authorities are questioning German discount grocers Aldi and Lidl are importing more fresh produce for their Irish stores as opposed to using local fruits and vegetables.
German food imports to Ireland reportedly have increased 2,000 percent since Aldi and Lidl came to the country three years ago.
- In the UK, Wal-Mart’s Asda Group reportedly plans to add drive-in pharmacies to many of its stores, using a technique that Wal-Mart’s Neighborhood Markets have used successfully in the US.
The move comes as the UK relaxes its rules about who can and cannot operate a pharmacy in the country.
