business news in context, analysis with attitude

Nash Finch announced that it has opened its third Avanza Supermarket, aimed at serving the rapidly growing Hispanic marketplace in Denver. The store carries an extensive variety of authentic products and services seen as important to Hispanic shoppers.

Ron Marshall, CEO of Nash Finch, said, "Customer response to these stores has been very positive, our partnership with the community has grown, and we remain most excited about the momentum inherent in the AVANZA format."

The timing is certainly good, since the US Census Bureau just recently revealed that Hispanics now outnumber blacks as the largest minority in the US.

The company plans to eventually roll out the concept beyond Denver.
