Published reports say that the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Texas Department of Agriculture plan to quarantine covering about 225 square miles in the citrus production area of the Rio Grande Valley.
The reason? Five serpentina fruit flies have been trapped there, and an outbreak could damage the citrus and other fruits grown there, though there is no threat to public health.
