- Exotic Newcastle Disease has found its way to Texas and New Mexico, has five counties in those two states have been quarantined by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) after a small flock of chickens near El Paso, Texas, tested positive for the disease.
Exotic Newcastle Disease is harmless to humans and does not affect the safety of poultry meat or eggs. However, it usually is fatal to fowl.
Texas is the fourth state to be affected by the six-month outbreak of Exotic Newcastle Disease. California has been hardest hit, with more than three billion birds destroyed since it was discovered. Arizona and Nevada also have been affected.
