business news in context, analysis with attitude

The Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports that Pennsylvania-based Giant Eagle has opened two new c-stores under the "GetGo" banner, selling gasoline, milk and a limited selection of food.

Giant Eagle has 13 full-service grocery stores with gas stations, but this reportedly is the first time that it has opened c-stores adjacent to its supermarkets.

Giant Eagle recently merged its operations with the 27-unit Crossroads c-store chain, and a number of those stores are slated to be converted to the "GetGo" banner.
KC's View:
Smart move. The integration of c-stores and traditional supermarkets makes sense on a variety of levels, and we think we'll see a lot more of it.
