• News came this morning that Coretta Scott King, the widow of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who spent most of the years since his assassination working for the same social change and racial equality that he championed, has died at age 79.
• And, there was news yesterday that playwright Wendy Wasserstein has died of cancer at age 55. The New York Times reports that the Pulitzer Prize winner “spoke for a generation of smart, driven but sometimes unsatisfied women” and was someone for whom “humor was a necessary bulwark against the disappointments of life, and a useful release valve for anger at cultural and social inequities.”
