• The BBC reports that French researchers have unveiled study results saying that a Mediterranean diet – rich in fruit, vegetables, grains and fish – can significantly reduce the risk of serious lung diseases such as emphysema and bronchitis.

There are two reasons, researchers believe. One is that the diet is high in anti-oxidants, which cut the risk of tissue inflammation. The other is that the diet has low levels of sugar and nitrates, which is believed to have an impact.
