Michael Gambon, who got late-in-life celebrity when he took over for Richard Harris as Professor Dumbledore in the Harry Potter films, has passed away. He was 82.
While Gambon may be best known for playing the headmaster at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, he had a remarkable career and is often called one of Britain's greatest actors. In various media, he played everything from Winston Churchill to Lyndon Baines Johnson, Edward VII to Oscar Wilde, and performed in the works of William Shakespeare, Arthur Miller, Bertolt Brecht, Alan Ayckbourn and Harold Pinter.
